Dr. Clifton Hayes has served as principal of Delcastle, where it is always a great day to be a cougar, since 2013. Prior to that, he was an assistant principal at Howard High School of Technology for seven years and was a student advisor at Delcastle for two years. Over the past two decades, he has worked with students at the elementary, high school, and the college levels through his roles as a teacher, disciplinarian, and assistant principal. During his last year as an assistant principal, he received the Delaware Assistant Principal of the Year Award. In addition to serving the students in his school, Dr. Hayes represents the Delaware principals as the Delaware Association of School Principals (DASP) past president and state coordinator.
He earned his bachelor’s degree at Delaware State University and was awarded a full fellowship to pursue his Masters in special education at West Virginia University. Years after graduating from West Virginia University, he continued his commitment of learning by returning to his alma mater, Delaware State University, to obtain his Doctorate in educational leadership.
