NCC Vo-Tech celebrated both Black History Month and Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month in February with a unique educational campaign. Each day during the month, the district posted a feature article on its social media sites that highlight significant contributions of Black Americans (both current and historical) in the 40 different CTE-related career programs of study offered by the district's four high schools.
Under the headline NCC Vo-Tech Celebrates Black Contributions to Career Fields of Study, the postings provided a photo and brief summary of 40 amazing individuals as well as links for further information. With 28 days in February and 40 career programs, some days featured contributors in two different CTE program areas.
"This project was a way for us to celebrate our core mission of CTE education while also bringing attention to perhaps some lesser-known Black Americans whose significant contributions to business and industry may have been otherwise overlooked," said NCC Vo-Tech Superintendent Joseph Jones.
"It provided us with a vehicle to broaden the conversation with our students and our greater community."
A folder of all 40 CTE program highlights is attached.
