St. Georges’ Faculty Takes A Field Trip to Nemours

Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children (N/AIDHC) hosted 100 teachers and staff from St. Georges Technical High School for a staff professional development day in late August. New Castle County Vo-Tech School Board President Yvette Santiago is the Nemours’ Director of Operations for Delaware Valley Government Relations, and in that role, works to create opportunities for student learning. The St. Georges’ visit was focused on building literacy across all spectrums of career and academic content areas. Staff members were divided into three groups for tours in the morning based on their career and academic focus: the Construction and Facilities Trades group toured the new hospital building, main electrical room and central utility plant; the Culinary and Hospitality group toured the Sodexo dining area, their main retail and production kitchen and the patient production kitchen; the Allied Health Fields group toured the Emergency Department and the Center for Sports Medicine. In the afternoon, the faculty viewed the Resilience documentary, which highlights the impact of adverse childhood experiences and toxic stress on health.
