Congratulations to Hodgson’s Chelsea Anokye-Agyei, senior Nursing Technology student, who won the title of 2019 Poetry Out Loud Delaware State Champion at the state finals held in Smyrna on February 26. She will represent Delaware in the national championship April 29 to May 1 in Washington DC. Chelsea will receive a $200 award and an all-expense paid trip to Washington. Hodgson will receive a $500 stipend for the purchase of poetry materials. She placed 4th in last year’s state competition.
An outstanding Hodgson student and leader, Chelsea is a member of the National Honor Society and served as treasurer for two years. She is a member of the Student Council, and is helping to start a recycling club at the school. She is past president of the school’s drug/alcohol prevention club, LYNK, and was a state silver medalist in a Future Health Professionals (HOSA) competition.
The Poetry Out Loud state competition is sponsored by the Delaware Division of the Arts in partnership with the national Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation, part of a national program that encourages high school students to learn about great poetry through memorization performance and competition.
