Tim Dorsey, a Delcastle Science teacher, was selected as the Delaware Student Council (STUCO) Advisor of the Year. He received his award at a presentation Oct. 16. He will now compete as Delaware’s representative for the National STUCO Advisor of the Year. Dorsey was determined to increase interest and participation in the program when he took on the advisor assignment in 2015. Since then, the program has grown from 10 to 135 students participating.

COUNTDOWN BEGINS – Delcastle Students Talk to the International Space Station!

Delcastle students will ask questions live to International Space Station astronaut Dr. Serena M. Auñón-Chancellor on Wednesday, Oct. 24, as the ISS orbits over New Castle County between 1:48 p.m. and 1:58 p.m. In partnership with Radio Newark, which is managing the amateur radio contact, Delcastle is the first school in Delaware to be selected for an ARISS (Amateur Radio on the Insternational Space Station) communication. Hodgson Engineering and Manufacturing students and teacher Tyrone Thompson built an antenna for the contact. To watch the event, go to www.facebook.com/NCCVTSD/, as we’ll be broadcasting live! The space suit was delivered Monday morning as part of a space products exhibit that ILC Dover, manufacturer of used in space missions, has brought to Delcastle so that science students can learn more about the space environment leading up to the live ISS contact.

All NCC Vo-Tech students will be given a school-mananged electronic device this school year to enhance and expand their learning opportunities. Howard High School of Technology, the first public high school in Delaware to provide electronic devices for all students in 2012, will continue to provide an iPad for each student. Students at the district’s three other high schools – Delcastle, Hodgson, and St. Georges – will be given a Chromebook. Providing these devices allows students to choose how, when and where they learn, empowering them to maximize their full potential in preparation for the workplace and post-secondary pursuits. They will have accessibility to the world’s subject matter anywhere wireless connectivity is available.
